News and Awards:

Desert Rain House Living Building Challenge project (Bend, Oregon)

It started as a LEED dream home, but the couple changed the project to meet the Living Building Challenge. ML Vidas is on board as the sustainability advisor.  The Bend Bulletin is following the homeowners' decision to go greener. Among other challenges, in-place water treatment is sometimes at odds with local codes. Read about the solution that Vidas and the team are proposingEcoHome Magazine described some of the green construction products used in this house.

Staley Vidas Residence (Bend, Oregon)

Vidas designed her own home to meet LEED Platinum standards--and to look good in the neighborhood. She wrote a detailed description of the local materials, energy-saving systems, and unusual construction techniques that make this project unique for the AIA Seattle What Makes It Green Top Ten 2008 award.

The builder put the house on the Tour of Homes and provided this brochure.

Education:

Vidas received her Master of Architecture degree and the Certificate of Teaching Technical Subjects in Architecture from the University of Oregon in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College in 1981. Her detailed curriculum vitae is here.
